Barilla G. e R. Fratelli

Barilla stands as one of the top Italian food groups, leading company in the pasta market around the world, the ready to use sauce market of continental Europe, and the flatbread market in Scandinavia. The Group employs a workforce of over 14.000 people and has an annual turnover of 4 billion euros in 43 production plants (13 in Italy and 30 outside Italy), including 9 mills that provide the majority of raw materials required for the Group’s production of pasta and oven-baked goods. Products are exported to more than 100 countries. The Group’s brands fall into two principle business areas: meal solution and bakery products. In the meal solution section, Barilla leads the pasta market both in Italy and worldwide, in which it sells under the Barilla brand name, symbol of Italian gastronomy, and with lead brands at a local level (Misko in Greece, Filiz in Turkey and Yemina in Mexico).

Who We Are

The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition is a multidisciplinary think tank founded with the aim of identifying the key food and nutrition priorities related to people, environment, science and economics and developing proposals and recommendations on food and nutrition. In 2010, BCFN introduced the Food Double Pyramid: traditional food pyramid was combined with a pyramid showing the impact of food on the environment. The Double Pyramid provides interesting proof on the benefits of following the Mediterranean diet: benefits translate into an improvement in quality of life and decisively lower impact to the environment (up to a 60% reduction is possible changing eating habits). Barilla has also promoted studies to analyse and compare different distribution approaches and collaborative solutions for improving its logistics efficiency and sustainable performance.

Role in the project

Barilla will lead Task 2.3 where the assessment of collaborative logistics will be conducted. Having in-depth knowledge on the collaborative logistics actual problems will define the actual case scenarios and provide valuable feedback during the assessment process. Moreover, it will support the pilot preparation, pilot execution and overall assessment related tasks.
